IMPORTANT TERMS 1. Fardh - That from which a person does not become absolved from unless it is performed by him or her. If a fardh is not performed in an ibaadat wherein it is stipulated then that ibaadat will not be done. To leave out a fardh is a major sin. 2. Waa j ib - If in an ibaadat, a waaj ib is needed to be done then the ibaadat shall be done only ifthe waaj ib is completed. It is a minor sin to intentionally leave out a waaj ib even once and to do so several times is a major sin. 3. Sunnat-e-mu'akadah - That which the Holy Prophet lj. used to always do but did leave out in some instances or that which he emphasized doing. To complete the sunnat-e-mu'akada is thawaab and to not do so is an offence so grave that he who is habitual of not completing it is worthy of azaab (punishment). 4. Sunnat-e-ghair mu'akadah - That which Shariah does not admire being abandoned as its performance is thawaab. However, not completing it, even ifdue to habit, does not incur reproach . 5 . Mustahab - To perform it i s thawaab and approvedby the Shariah but to not do so causes absolutely no regret on behalfofthe Shariah. 6. Haraam-e-qat'ee - This is the opposite of fardh and to intentionally perform it once is a major sin andfisq (transgression). To save ones self from it is fardh and thawaab. 7. Makrooh-e-tahrimi - Performing it causes the ibaadat to be incomplete and he who does so is a sinner. To do it several times is a maj or sin. I 8. Makrooh-e-Tanzeehi - The Shal l .. !' does not agree with it being performedbut not to the extent that pu • .ishment awaits one who does so.
