Rule- If a woman is experiencing her initial haiz and it lasts for a little more than 1 0 days then whatever is extra is istihaaza and the 1 0 days, haiz. If a woman has experienced haiz before and her menstruation habit lasts less then 1 0 days then the period until her habit is haiz and whatever is after that is istihaaza (this is when haiz lasts for more then 1 0 days). However, i fthe menstruation lasts until 1 0 days then all days will be considered haiz, irrespective of her habit which will be considered changed. When there is no set habit, e.g. sometimes haiz lasts for 4 or 5 days, then the amount of days of haiz experienced last will now be counted as haiz and the rest as istihaaza (this is when the menstruation lasts more then 1 0 days). (Raddul-MlIhtaar, Maraaqil-Falaah) Rule- It is not necessary that blood flows always during the haiz. Even if it comes out at various intervals, it will stll be considered as menstruation. Rule- The earliest age from which haiz begins is 9 years and 55 years is the last age of menstruation. A woman of 55 years is known as an "Aaisa" while the age is known as "Sine-Ayaas". Therefore, blood that comes out before nine years and after 5 5 years is istihaaza. In the latter case (55 years), though, only ifblood comes out like the colour it should be before, it is haiz. (Raddul-Muhtaar ete) Rule- The blood that comes out for a pregnant woman and at the time of giving birth when the child is not more than half out is istihaaza. (Raddul-MuhtaQ/; ete) Rule- It is necessary that a gap of 1 5 days occurs between two haizs and between a haiz and nifaas as well . Therefore, if after nifaas 1 5 days are not completed and blood comes <? ut then it is istihaaza. (Raddlll Muhtaar) Rule- Haiz will be counted from when blood comes to thefarje-khaarij. Hence; ifa cloth is used in the farj e-khaarij, prohibiting blood to reach it and remain in thefarje-daakhil, then until the cloth is not moved she will not be haaiza (woman with haiz). She has to keep the fast and perform salaah. (Raddul-Muhtaar) 34
