Rule- There is no set minimum period for nifaas. If even one drop of blood comes aftermore than halfthe baby comes out, it will be known as nifaas. The maximum period of nifaas is 40 days and nights and the period ofnifaas will commence from after when more than halfthe baby comes out, according to the deeming of the people within whom it is born. (GeneralBooks) Rule- If blood flows for more than 40 days and this is her first child birth or she does not remember the amount of days blood came in her pregnancy before this, then 40 days will be nifaas and the rest istihaaza. If the habit of nifaas is known then that amount will be taken into account as nifaas here and the extra days will be istihaaza. (Durre­ Mukhtaar, Raddul-Muhtaar) Rule- Blood that comes out before the child being born is not nifaas but istihaaza, even ifhalfthe childhas come out. (Durre-Mukhtaar) Rule- Ifthere was amiscarriage but a body part ofthe foetus was formed then the blood will be nifaas. If a body part was not formed and blood came for three days and nights with the period ofcleaniness for 1 5 days passed before this then it is haiz. The blood will be istihaaza if the bleeding stops before three days and nights or ifthe period ofcleanliness has not properlypassed. (Raddul-Muhtaar) Rule- Nifaas will commence in a C-Section case (cutting the stomach to take out the child) from when half the child is out. (Durre-Mukhtaar, etc) Rule- Ifthere WSls·a miscarriage and it was not known ifa body part was formed, or the time which the pregnancy lasted for is not known so as to ascertain if a body part was formed or not and blood continues to flow a�r the miscarriage, then it shall be given the order of haiz (meaning after the amount ofdays ofthe habit ofhaiz is over, she should bath and perform salaah).
