The order concerning naj aasat-e-khafeefa is that if it is less then a quarter ofthe part of body or clothes it is on, e.g. ifit is on the sleeve then less than a quarter ofits space or ifit is on the arm then less than a quarter of i ts space, then it is maaJ(forgiven). Namaaz will be done with it. However, if it is more than a quarter then, without cleaning it, namaaz will not be complete. (Durre-Mukhtaar) 3 . The meaning ofmNe, equal or less than a dirham concerning those naj aasat which are dense, e.g. stool, cow dung, etc. is more, equal or less than a dirham's weight, which is 4 Y2 maasha. When the naj aasat is fine/liquid based, e.g. urine ofa man, alcohol, etc. then "by a dirham" is meant its length and breath. In the case of fine naj aasat, the depth of a palm is said to be the area ofa dirham according to the Shariah. (General Books) 4. The above laws regarding najaasate-galeeza and khafeefa are in reference to when it is on the body or clothes. However, ifnaj aasat, be it galeeza or khafeefa, has to fall into any liquid, e.g. vinegar, water, etc. it becomes entirely na a -paak, even if one drop falls, e.g. if one drop of urine falls into a big jug of water then the entire content of the jug becomes naa-paak. Stool, urine, flowing blood, matter, a mouthful of vomit, blood of haiz, nifaas or istihaaza, mani, mazi, wadi, the water from a sore eye or the water which comes out painfully from the navel or nipple, fie urine ofmilk-drinking infants (boys and girls), the milk poured out by a milk­ drinking child which is a mouthful, the flowing blood of every animal that lives on land, the flesh and fat ofa dead animal (which died without slaughter) the excreta and urine ofharaam animals l ike a dog, l ion, fox, cat, rat, donkey, whale, elephant, swine, the dung of a horse, the dung and . excreta ofevery halaal animal like the cow, buffalo, goat, camel, the droppings ofthose birds that do not fly high, e.g. chicken, duck (be they big or small), the flesh, bones and hair of a pig, even if it was slaughtered, the blood ofa chameleon or lizard, the moisture that comes out from the trunk ofan elephant, the saliva ofcarnivorous animals l ike the lion, dog, cheetah, the urine and excreta ofa snake, the flesh ofa wild snake and frog that does not have flowing b lood in them and their skins 45
