Therefore, ifit .ouches the body or clothes, it is not neccessary to wash it but it is better to do so. This is on condition, though, that inani, mazi or blood is not mixedwith it. (Shaami) HOW TO PURIFY THAT WHICH IS NAJIS Those things which are najis by themselves (that which are called Naj aasat), e.g. alcohol, dung and other galeez things, do not become paak until they l eave their originality and take on another form. Alcohol is najis as long as it remains as alcohol but when it becomes vinegar, it becomes paak. Those things which are not by themselves naj is, rather, they have become naa-paak due to a naj aasat contacting it, have various methods ofbecoming Paak. (GeneralBooks) Rule- There is no stipulation of any amount of times for washing any coarse naj aasat (excreta, dung, blood, etc) as cleaning its effect is necessary even ifit has to bewashed four or five times. However ,even if it can be removed under three times, to wash it three times is mustahab. (Alamghiri) Rule- If the naj aasat is clean but its colour or odour stil l lingers then to remove it also is necessary. However, if washing it takes up a maj or amount of time then washing the colour or odour three times is sufficient. (Alamghiri) Rule- If the naj aasat is fine and a flowing one then washing and squeezing it three times makes it paak. The meaning of thoroughly squeezing is that one should use one's complete strength to do so, to the extent that there is no dripping even in the next squeeze. Ifone, caring about the condition ofthe clothes, does not properly squeeze them, then theywill not become paak. (Alamghiri) Rule- The hand should be c leaned after the initial and second squeezing and the third squeezing is cleanliness for the c lothes as well as the hands. 48
