(Sunah Noor, Verse3 1) The followingAhkaam can be derived from the aboveAyat, 1 . Mumin men and women are both ordered to keep their gaze low. Neither should the eyes ofmen fal l upon women nor should the sight of women target men. 2. Both men and women are to protect their private parts. Zina (Fornication) does not only fal l under this but other actions that are or lead to immorality, e.g. : pornography etc. should also be shunned. 3. Women should not display their beauty be it thei r physical body or when they dress up to men who are Ajnabee (stranger!>), All things that lead to desire being increased, e.g. make-up, perfume, etc fal l into this rule and should not be used beforeAjnabees. Keeping the face open and visible invites Fitna (mischief) to transpire. Hence it should be covered also so that Fitna does not occur. 4. Women must not show their decorated selves beforeAjnabee men and should have their head coverings, e.g. scarfetc over their chests as well. The Ulema state that the head and chest area two areas that are orientated for zeenat (wearing of jewelry etc) . Therefore special attention needs to be paid in covering them so that the root ofmany Fitna is cut. Zeenat, natural or applied, all that increases attraction towards women should not be shown toAjnabee men. 5 . When walking women should not apply force to their feet so that their concealed jewelry is heard. It is known from this that any sound that is attractive and increases attenfion is forbidden. Jewelry that makes a sound, e.g, ankle bracelet etc should not be used when walking with force because ofthe noise theymake. The Hadeeth states "Allah�does 79
