In today's terms, a Musaafir is one who leaves his or her city or town for ajourney ofmore than 92 kilometers. Rllle- Ifa distance ofthree days is completed in less than a day or even less than a few hours by fast modes oftransport eg: cars, airplanes etc, then the person who does so is still a Musaafir with theAhkaam ofsafar being applicable on himor her. (Raddul-Muhtaar) Rllle- If the station is far from habitation then upon reaching it one becomes a Musaafir provided that she intends to undertake the distance oftravel. (Bahare-Shariat) Rllle- For the Ahkaam of Safr to be implaced it i s necessary that a distance of three days is intended from where one leaves. Ifa distance of two days is intended when leaving and when this place is reached another place which is also less than three days in distance is intended, or an intention was made to go the distance of two days for some work and when reaching this place the distance of another day is made thereafter, then these are all not intentions of undergoing a journey of three days. Therefore a person does not become a Musaafir according to the Shariah. (Durre-Mukhtaar) Rllle- It is Waaji b on a Musaafir to make Qasr in· namaaz meaning a four rakaat Fardh riamaaz should be read as two rakaats. This is the complete namaaz for a traveler. If one intentionally reads 4 rakaats and makes Qaaida on the two rakaats then the Fardh will be complete and the other 2 rakaats will become Nafl. 'However doing so makes one a sinner as a waaj ib has been abandoned. Hence Tauba should be made and ifQaaida was not made on the two rakaats than the Fardh has not been completed and the . lllmaaz has become Nafl. Therefore the Fardh should be repeated again. (Alamghiri) Ride,. Sunnats should be read complete as there is no Qasr in them. However if a person is in a hurry or in some uneasiness then they are forgiven. The sunnats ofFajr though, as far as possible, should be read as immense Thawaab is attained through it. (Alamghiri) 1 1 0
