Mayyit is known as Taaziyat, a sunnat of our beloved Prophet and an act of Thawaab. A Hadeeth states, "He who makes Taaziyat of his Muslim brother afflicted by a calamity will be given a garment of respect to wear byAllah on the day ofQiyaamat" and another narration mentions; "He who makes Taaziyat ofa calamity stricken Muslim will receive the same amount of Thawaab as that person" (if the calamity strickenperson demonstrates Sabr and Shukr). Rule- It is Mustahab that Taaaziyat of thc deceased's entire household young, old, man, woman, be made with the following words, "Allah forgive the Mayyit, engulf him in His mercy and grant you Sabr and Thawaab over this." (Alamghiri) Rule- I f the neighbors or far relatives of the Mayyit bring food for that day and night for the bereaved family then it is good. They should be coaxed to eat the food. (Raddul-Muhtaar) Rule- There is no harm in the near relatives sitting in the home so that others can come and make theirTaaziyat. To spread a sheet and sit on the door stead orgeneral path is bad. (Alamghiri) Rule- The giving of Daawat to relatives and friends by the family members oftheMayyit for Teeja, Daswa, Chaaleeswa etc is not allowed and a bad Bidat. Daawat (inviting) is done on occasions of joy not sorrow. (Fathul-Qadeer) The Ulema of the Ahle-Sunnat Wa Jammat state that these kinds of invitations are all for show and to be cautious of them is necessary. Kashful Gata states, "Many women concentrate at the home of the deceased for Taaziyat and begin to make Nauhaa (wail, lament and hit their chests). They should not be fed as this is helping a sin." The Ahadeeth states, "The Sahaaba used to regard gatherings of people at the residence of the Mayyit's family and preparing of their food to be fromNauhaa for the Mayyit." (IbnMajah) It is evident that Nauhaa is Haraam. Yes i f food is cooked to feed and give the needy then there is no harm rather it is good bllt on condition 1 3 1
