(Khaaniya) Rllle- People whose professions and trades are thought to be contemptible are not the Kufu of those with sought after professions. (Raddul-Muhtaar) AWOMANS RIGHT OF MEHR In different modes of speech, the Quraan has emphasized the right of Mehr possessed by a woman and from this we can understand the elevated rank the Shariah of Islam reserves for females. Mehr (Dowry) has been instituted so that a life led in the confines ofShariah and one led in only completion ofcarnal desires can be distinguished. The stipulated amount which is Waaj ib to be given by the husband according to the Shariah is termed as mehr. Even if Mehr is not mentioned in the Nikah or specified, it is rej ected or both the husband andwife agree to it not been given, still too it remains Waaj ib. Rule- The minimum amount of Mehr is 10 Dirhams and there is no stipulation for a maximum amount. When giving Mehr in currency note and cash, care should be taken to ensure that the amount is not less than 1 0 Dirha m s. (Fataawa Razvia) Rule- Mehr becomes Muakad ifWati or Khalwate-Sahiha takes place or either spouse, the hu s band or the wife, dies. Meaning the complete Mehr becomes Laazim to be given on the husband with no decrease being able to occur in it. Yes, if the rightful recipient forgave the entire Mehr or part of it to be given then it is excused and the Mehr does not become Muakad.
