Rule- If the mother of the child refuses to breast feed and the child does not accept the milk ofanotherwoman or the milk nurse does not feed for free and the child or the father does not have money, then the motherwill be forced to breast feed. (Raddul-Muhtaar) Rule- If a child is in the upbringing ofthe mother and she is i n the child' s father 's Nikah o r Iddat, then she will not b e compensated for the caring. If this is not the case, then she has a right for it as well as compensation for milk feeding and Nafqaa for the chi ld. lfshe does not have a place to staythen she has a right to accommodation and ifa servant is needed for the child, then for this also. All these expenses are to be given from the money of the child if he or she has any, otherwise the person charged with the Nafqaa of the child will have to bear these expenditures also. (Durre-Mukhtaar) Rule- The boy child should be left in the care of the mother or the woman who is charged with his care until he does not need them to care for him, meaning he can eat, drink, wear clothes, make Istinja himself and this is estimated at about seven years. The girl child should be left in the care of the mother etc until the age ofmaturity is reached which is estimated at around nine years. (Khaaniya, Bahrur-Raaiq) Rule- Both boys and girls should be taught the beliefs and essential Masaail of the Ahle Sunnat Wa Jamaat first before anything else. The recital ofthe Quraan should be taught to them also before concentrating on acquiring secular knowledge as the former is Noor and guidance in this world as well as the hereafter. Only through instill ing the teachings of Islam can it be hoped that the child becomes a productive member of society. Rule- When the period of upbringing is over and the child comes to the father, it is not Waajib on him to send the child to the mother and it is also not Waaj ib on the mother to send the child to the father during the period ofupbringing. Yes ifthe child is in the care of one and the other wishes to see him or her then seeingwill not be prohibited. (Durre-Mukhtaar) 2 1 4
