Rule- Besides gold and silver, using rings of other metals, e.g. copper, steel, bronze etc is Haraam for men and women both. However men are also not allowed to use rings of gold too (women are permitted). A Nagina (gem) of any rock e.g. emerald, ruby etc is permissible (in a ring) for both men andwomen. (Durrre-Mukhtaar) Rule- Ifa steel ring is covered in silver (or in goldjor women) in a way that the steel cannot be seen at all then there is no prohibition 'against wearing this ring. (Alamghiri) It can be gathered from this that wearing goldjewelrywherein iron bars are used and gold cased over them is allowed. (Bahare- Shariat) Rule- When women wear rings with Naginas they should not face them towards the palm because rings are used for embellishment and by facing them towards the direction of t he hands allows more Zeenat. (Hidaaya) Rule- Using a gold wire to fasten a shaky tooth is allowed and if someone's nose becomes cut then it is permitted to fix a nose ofgold. In both these cases the usage ofgold for men becomes permissible due to necessity as using silver for these purposes causes a bad odor to emanate. (Alamghirz) If a tooth fel l off then gold wire can be used to join it again. Another person' s tooth should not be adjoined in another's mouth. (Alamghiri) Rule- Women are prohibited to use jewelry with bells (Gungroo). A Hadeeth states, "Shaitaan is with each bell and the angels do not enter the home in which jewelry with bells are used." (AbuDawood) Rule- Sometimes due to c limate change, or sickness, the hair of some women becomes grey before time and they begin to look o ld. Hence for them to apply black dye to their hair with the intention of making their husbands interested in them, Insha-allah, is not disallowed.
