Rule- If a person swore an oath to not speak to someone but sent him or her a letter, gesture or said something to that individual through some body else, causes the Qasam to break. (Bahare -Shariat) Rule- If a Qasam is made to not read the letter ofa certain person but it was seen and whatever was written inside was understood then the Qasambreaks as this is what reading a letter means. (Raddul-Muhtaar) Rule- "Eating anddrinkingfromyour house isHaraam on me" and "It is H araqmfor me to drinkfrom your cup" are both Qasams. (Alamghirz) Rule- If an oath was made to not eat meat, then it will not break i ffish i s eaten. Similarly it will not break i f l iver etc, that which i s no t popula r l y known a s meat. i s eaten. However, in an area where these things are considered to be meat, then eating these things there causes the Qasam to break. (Durre-Mukhtaar, Raddul-Muhtaar) Rule- Giving Kafaarah is also necessary i n some cases of Manat e.g. saying "rrI talk toyou then a certain amount offasts need to be kept by me" is a Qasam. Ifthe aim ofthis oath is not to talk but i fspeech is made then there is the choice of either keeping the amount offasts mentioned or giving Kafaarah.
