There are two situations to this, 1 . Grain is needed in the city and is bought with the intention ofgaining absolute control over it so that a higher rate can be asked for it's sale. 2. The person goes out to the traders and after lying to them about the market price of the town, buys the grain or buys it by deceiving them. Both these cases are prohibited. If these two situations are not found, then doing so is not disallowed. (Hidaaya, Fathul-Qadeer) Rule- Ihtikaar (Monopolization of sale) which is prohibited and a disgusting sin, is to buy grain in the time of a shortage and prevent if s sale until people are absolutely distressed, to then sell it at an exorbitant ,. pnce. Ifgrain is bought in it's season and kept for a few days until it becomes expensive in the market and then sold at this higher rate, then this is not Ihtikaar and is allowed. (GeneralBooks) Rule- Ihtikaar can be made in items for human consumption e.g. grain, fruits etc as well as in items for animal consumption e.g. hay, straw etc. (Durre-Mukhtaar, Raddul-Muhtaar) Rule- To set up a stall in a path that is narrow and people passing by are out in distress because of it, is not allowed. This stall should not be patronized also as this is aidingwrong. Ifthe path is wide enough for the people passing by to not be troubled, then there is no harm in setting it up in such a path. (Alamghirz) Rule- Using rings, bracelets, necklaces etc of steel, copper, bronze, zinc etc is impermissible for both men and women. Therefore to make ad sell them is also prohibited. Yes, the prohibition ofBa'ee i s not equal (in severity) to the prohibition ofusing these objects. (Durre-Mukhtaar) 276
