The traditions ofthe Holy Prophet $ have also praised giving extra time to the financially distressed to repay the loan or to forgive it. Rassool lalah � has said, "The person who wishes forAllah to grant him deliverance from the hardship ofQayaamat should give extra time to the distressed to repay their Qarz or to forgive it."Another Hadeeth states that Allah will keep the person who gives extra time or forgives a Qarz, under His shade. (Muslim) Masaai I regarding this are now produced here, Rule- It is necessary that the object given or taken in Qarz is Misli meaning it should be measured, weighed or counted. However, a condition that applies to when it is counted, is that there should not be a maj or difference to the items that make up the Qarz, e.g. almonds, pecan-nuts, eggs etc. If there is a difference that causes an increase or decrease in the amount of the Qarz then that obj ect cannot be given or taken in Qarz. Similarly, it is not correct to give or take an expensive obj ect, e.g. house, land, animals etc in Qarz. (Durre-Mllkhtaar) Rule- The Hukm ofQarz is that the object given back must be equal to the obj ect taken. (Raddul-Muh tam) Rule- Roti can be counted and weighed, both in Qarz. Meat should be weighed for Qarz. (Dun'eMukhtar) Rule- Flour should be measured in Qarz but if general practice is for it to be weighed then this is permissible. (Alal1lghiri) This rule also applies to lentils, rice, sugar, honey, ghee, oil etc. Rule- The changing of a currency or it being stopped, is of no consequence in Qarz. Meaning the amount signified at the time ofQarz by the cUlTency, is to be repaid even if the coins or notes are not prcvalent. (Durre-Mukhtaal) 279
