AADAAB OF A GATHERING 1 . Whenever you enter a gathering and it has people already seated in it, then sit anywhere you get a place. 2. Those who are already seated should take into consideration those who come afterwards. Meaning they should sit in a manner that creates space for others who come after. The latter people should not force themselves through the gathering to sit in the front as well . 3 . Y('u should not lift another person up to sit i n h i s space a s this causes vanity and resentment for you is created within people. 4. If a person was sitting in a Majl is (gathering) and left his seat to do something necessary, then when he returns, he is rightfully entitled to that place. Another person is not allowed to sit in the seat. 5 . It is not permissible for a person to gap himself between two people without their permission as abhorrence is created by doing so. 6. Public streets and pathways should not be the place where people gatheras this is not a dignified action. 7. Do not attempt to sit in a specified place by yourself and ifyou go to another persons home, do not sit in a special seat without your host's permission. If he himself makes you sit in that place, then do not unnecessarily use the excuse ofhumility. 8 . Whispering should not be made in a gathering especially if another thinks that the whispering is about him. 9 . The secret discussions ofa Maj lis should not be publicly announced. 1 0. A human is most affected by Sohbat, (the company he chooses) . Therefore, you should not sit in the Sohbat of those whose beliefs or actions are wrong. 301
