Kabath (Arak Tree Fruit)

In the Sahihain it is narrated that jabir bin Abdullah said, “We were with the messenger of Allah” collecting Kabath when he said, “Collect the black type of Kabath because it is the best type.”

The Kabath is the fruit that grows on the plant called Arak which grow in the area of Hijaz [and whose branches are used for Siwak as we have stated]. It is hot and dry and carries the same benefits as the Arak tree: strengthening the stomach, helping the digestion, dissolving phlegm and relieveing back pain and several other illnesses. Ibn Juljul said, “Drinking its soup produces urine as a diuretic, and cleanses the prostate. “In addition, Ibn Radhwan said, “[The Kabath] strengthens the stomach and constipates (mildly).”
