35 This refers to their over-excited state of lust. 36 This refers to people of Thamud, from whom the Prophet Salih was chosen by God to preach. Thamud lies in North West Arabia, in southern Syria. 37 Here God is addressing the Prophet r directly, making clear that the purpose of the references to the people of Lot, and to the inhabitants of Madyan and Thamud, is to serve as a warning to the people of Makkah to mend their godless ways. 38 The Arabic phrase al-Sab’ al-Mathani could also mean: the first seven chapters of the Quran; Chapter Al-Fatiha; or the whole Quran ( Islahi ). 39 Al-yaqin refers to death, literally it means certainty, since it’s the only aspect of our lives which is certain.
