God is Self-Sufficient and Most Gentle. 264 Believers, do not invalidate your charity by reminders of favours done or by insulting, like the one who spends his wealth to show off in front of people and does not truly believe in God and the Last Day; he is like a rock with a layer of soil on the top, when heavy rain comes, it is left clean and bare. They will get nothing from their efforts. God does not guide the disbelievers. P 265 Those who spend their wealth seeking God’s pleasure, and for strengthening their faith, are like an orchard on a hilltop; if it rains, it produces double yield, and if there is no rain the dew is enough. God sees all that you do. P 266 Would any of you wish to have an orchard of date palms and grape vines beneath which streams flow, producing all kinds of fruits?
