87. Al-Aʿla The Highest An early Makkan chapter, its central theme is the role of the Majestic Quran and the Messenger as reminders. By referring to the early Scriptures of Moses and Abraham , the Quran makes it clear that this is a continuation of the same mission of past prophets. What blinds humanity to this reality? The answer is love of worldly life. These verses express contempt for the love of the material world, since it distracts people from their Lord. In the name of God, the Kind, the Caring. P L 1 Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Most High. 2 Who created and made you complete; 3 Who fixed destiny 1 and gave guidance, 4 Who produced green pasture, 5 then turned it into dry dusty debris. T 6 We will teach you the Quran so you will not forget it , 7 except what God may wish. He knows the open and the hidden. 8 We shall make your journey easy, 9 so give reminder; the reminder is beneficial. 10 The one in awe of his Lord will listen, 11 but the wicked will ignore, 12 he will enter the Great Fire, 13 not dying and not living. 14 Successful indeed is the one who purifies himself, 15 and remembers the Name of his Lord, and performs the prayer regularly . 16 You prefer the worldly life, 17 yet the Hereafter is far better and everlasting. 18 This fact is also mentioned in the previous Scriptures, 19 and in the Scriptures of Abraham and Moses.
