100. Al-ʿAdiyat The War Horses This is a late Makkan chapter that concisely describes the human condition of ungratefulness. The Arabic is Kufr , a key theme in the Quran, as it often warns people of the dreadful consequences of human ingratitude. A Kafir is an unthankful person, who fails to acknowledge the gifts of the Generous Lord. The Kafir , the disbeliever, is condemned for this ingratitude. Hell is the only place that will cleanse humanity of the filth of this sin. The chapter strongly condemns unthankfulness, and reminds people of the Day when everything will be revealed, and no secrets will remain. In the name of God, the Kind, the Caring. T 1 By the snorting war horses, 2 their hooves striking sparks, 3 charging in dawn raids 4 scattering dust clouds 5 then dashing into the centre of the enemy . 6 Human beings are most unthankful to His Lord. 7 He is a witness to this, 8 and passionately loves wealth. 9 Doesn’t he know everything in the graves will be thrown out, 10 and the secrets of hearts will be revealed? 11 That Day their Lord will be aware of them.
